I forgot to mention a real life example of how life works, that happened to me today.
It really is amazing how life works, when you become more of an observer of life than a player or the avatar.
Today, this morning actually, I needed to go to the grocery store because my wife wanted me to pick-up a free cast iron frying pan that the grocery store was giving away to the first 150 customers that came through the door.
Since it was the first 150 customers that came through the door that would get a free cast iron frying pan, my wife was very worried that they would be all gone, so she wanted me to go early to the grocery store to get one of these cast iron frying pans before they were all gone.
Also, she had to go to work this morning, so she was not able to go to the store herself and get the gift.
Normally, I would not go to the store that early, but since my wife was very concerned about missing out on a free give away, I got my self up and out the door.
All went well, I went to the grocery store, received the free cast iron frying pan, picked up a few groceries and headed back home.
I left the parking lot and headed down a sideroad towards the main road that would take me home and as I approached the main road, I could see someone standing at the corner on the main road with a backpack at his feet and as I drove and came closer to the intersection, I notice his arm go up and his thumb stick up towards the sky.
It was a little old scruffy looking man, hitchhiking on the side of the road.
I immediately, and without thought, motioned to him to get in the car when I got to the intersection. I also looked at the direction of the road where other traffic would be coming, and of course, there was not a car in sight, there were no other drivers anywhere to be seen, just me, out on the road at a time in the morning that I would not be out and also, more importantly, I had no intention of going to the store this morning.
It was all because my wife wanted me to pick up a free cast iron frying pan that I experienced an opportunity to help this poor old man.
He opened the door and asked me if I was going somewhere but I could hardly understand what he was saying because I think that he was missing most of his teeth. I told him that I could take him as far as the pizza shop that was just before the road that I turn off to take me home. He knew the location that I was describing and was more than happy to accept being driven that far.
We had some small talk and I still could hardly understand what he was saying but then I asked him if he was going to the next larger town and he said no, that he was going to this other place and eventually I could understand where he wanted to go and it was not much farther up the road, so I told him that I would drive him the rest of the way there and he was very happy.
When we got there, he told me he lived around the backside of the building that was there, which was a couple of businesses but there were also apartments associated with the buildings.
He hopped out of my car, thanked me again and proceeded around the back of the buildings.
I truly hope that he lives in one of the apartments or rooms there and is not homeless, but he said that he lives there and I hope that he does.
So, I hope that you can see how life works.
I said that if we have the opportunity to help someone or something, that we should and this, clearly, was an opportunity, set up for me to help. Of course I could have rejected helping him and someone else would have had the opportunity to help but I hope that you can see that these opportunities happen specifically for us to give us the chance to practice what we have been taught by the GWB, to help others in need, when we can and when it is appropriate.
As you can read, I didn’t need to go out looking to help others, the opportunity came to me, at the right moment and when I wasn’t expecting it, that is how it works.
Thanks,
Guy
