I don’t know if I can explain this clearly, but I had a sort of visitation.
I couldn’t sleep so, about 2 am I got up.
I filled our dishwasher and put it on.
Then I went into my office to get some more work done.
Now, my desk faces the door into my room, the door is just on the front left as I look at the screen of my computer.
The door was shut but it always leaves a slight gap – it doesn’t completely close, further, it sometimes jams a bit.
Now, my wife, if she wakes in the middle of the night, sometimes comes down and we have a cup of tea together. The kitchen is the next room on the left of my room.
When I got up at 2 am, she was asleep upstairs.
Suddenly, at about 3.30 am, I saw someone outside in the corridor looking in through the crack in the door. Then the door shook a bit, as if someone was trying to open it but it had jammed.
I assumed that it was my wife.
The shaking stopped and, once again I assumed that she had gone into the kitchen to make herself some tea.
I called out to her, got up and looked into the kitchen. The light was off and all was dark.
So, I thought that she had gone back to bed so I went into our bedroom and could see that she was fast asleep.
Now, who it was that looked into my room and shook the door, I don’t know but I am sure that it was not my wife nor would it have been my son.
Most strange.
Comment:
You did a perfect job of describing your experience.
Too bad they didn’t get into the room so you could see and possibly talk to them.
Then again, maybe it was a good thing that they could not get in.
If it was a ghost, you would think that they would just pass through the door.
I’m glad you and your family are safe.

I am pretty sure that it was an apparition of some kind.
Some of them, poltergeists, can take physical form and move chairs, open and close doors, etc.
But, I would not have been scared of it, whatever sort of apparition it was, they can’t harm us.
