Question:
Hi Bob,
I was wondering if you knew what I meant when I said that when I meditated and tried to envision a diamond and make it spin, the way it is happening for me right now is that I can “see” a diamond and I can make it spin, but I can’t really “see” it if you know what I mean.
It starts out as a thought that I want, I think about seeing a diamond and then I somehow can visualize it but it’s not like it is just sitting there out in front of me and I am looking at it. I can picture it in my mind, but I can’t “see” it.
It’s very hard to describe but then sometimes I will clearly see it as if it is like looking at it with eyes… I hope you can understand what I am saying.
At first it is like a thought in my mind, and then the longer I focus on it the clearer it gets, until it is as if I am looking at it, but it doesn’t start that way.
This is very difficult to explain, I can visualize or imagine a diamond and make it spin, but it’s not like I am looking at it, this could go on for 10 seconds or more, and then the diamond shows up as if I am looking at it.
Is this something you are familiar with? Does this happen to you?
Answer:
We are all different and we all struggle, in our own fashion, to learn to visualise things.
I suggest you don’t struggle with this but just let the image come to you.
As you said, you can see it but not really.
That is just because you haven’t developed your power of visualization fully yet.
Just keep practising and, eventually, you will be able to see whatever you want to visualise totally clearly.
But it takes a long time. It is all a question of practice.
But visualisation is a very useful gift and well worth battling with.
Follow up:
Thanks Bob,
I assumed that it was because my visualization was not yet developed, but it did occur to me that what may be happening is that I use thought to think about the diamond and then it manifests itself into my vision.
Of course, I will continue and try to be constant with my technique.
Reply:
If I may suggest, it is a good idea to change what you visualise sometimes. For instance, change to visualising a flower that you like.
If you have a real flower handy, take a real close look at it so that you really know what it looks like, then try to visualise it.
You can use anything so long as it is beautiful.
