I had a real NDE once and it was quite an experience, something that I will never forget.
I went to a rather special private school, built a bit like Hogwarts: great hall with the teachers that ate on a dais at one end of the hall, a huge organ over the dais, teachers dressed in flowing gowns like Severus Snape. We also had four houses with four house common rooms and so on.
When I was in the third form – aged about thirteen – one lunchtime, I was in our house common room, sitting on a chair chewing the fat with some friends, when a kid came up behind me and put his arm around my throat to strangle me. It was for a joke, I think.
Anyway, I couldn’t breath and so I felt this horrible choking feeling as you can imagine.
Suddenly, all the pain stopped and I felt total peace. I found myself in a beautiful tunnel of colored lights: red, blue, purple and so on. Also, there was beautiful organ music playing that I supposed was coming from someone playing the organ in the great hall.
This tunnel of light was like a large tube, about 15 feet wide. But the floor part was flat I suppose. I was floating slowly along this tube.
The walls looked like they were made of glass with colored lights illuminating the tube but I couldn’t see the source of the lights.
I floated peacefully along, looking at the colored walls, listening to this beautiful classical organ music, wondering what on Earth was going on when, just as suddenly, I was back in the chair, coughing and spluttering – the kid had released me and I could breath again.
I was really peeved at coming back. I so wanted to go on down this tunnel. It was so peaceful.
I didn’t care about my family or anybody. I just wanted to go on to wherever this tube would take me.
Now, at the time, I had no knowledge of NDE and I certainly had no knowledge of this tunnel so I could not have imagined it. But it was real.
I now know that if I had gone all the way down this tunnel, I would have seen the white light and so on but I never got that far.
Now, the other experiences have happened when I have been meditating.
On odd occasions, I will suddenly find myself in a park like field. There is grass and a myriad of flowers. The sky is blue. There are bell like sounds coming from the flowers.
But the thing is, the brilliance and clarity of the images and the sounds.
It is as if I have spent my entire life with a veil over my eyes, plugs in my ears and they had been removed.
Everything is intensified in color and sound. It has to be experienced to comprehend.
There is also this wonderful feeling of peace.
This goes on until I say, ‘Wow, what’s happening?
Then, instantly I return to our dull Earth.
How I long to be in that state all the time.
